WHITE ALICE SYSTEM RAPIDLY DISAPPEARING

The White Alice System is rapidly disappearing. Many of the sites no longer exist, nothing remaining but flattened mountain tops and antenna foundations.
After the system was shut down, the equipment was stripped from the buildings and shipped to Auburn, Washington. I had the honor of spending another winter at Cape Lisburne in 1983-84 (I thought I would never have to see the place again when  I left in 1965). The White Alice buildings and the antennas were still standing but the equipment building had been completely stripped, even the kitchen sink was gone. The only thing left behind was the Buda generator.
At lower camp, most of the inter-connected wooden buildings had been replaced by a multi-story composite building. From a distance, it looked just like a prison. (Photo)
